Transversalis fascia

Transversalis fascia

Anatomy

A continuous fascia that lines the abdominal cavity, deep to the transverse abdominis muscle, and continuous into the pelvic cavity.

Superiorly: it blends with the fascia of the inferior of the diaphragm.
Posteriorly: it blends with the thoracolumbar fascia.
Laterally: with the spine of the ilium.
Anteriorly: in the abdomen, both sides converge and meet at the mid-line, and around the pelvic cavity it blends with the fascia covering the muscles of the pelvic cavity. At this point, it becomes the parietal pelvic fascia.

Functions

Encloses the contents of the abdomen and pelvic cavity.
