Coracobrachialis

Anatomy

Origin:
Apex of coracoid process (with short head of biceps brachii).

Insertion:
Midway on medial border of humerus between the origin of triceps brachii and brachialis.

Key Relations:
Musculocutaneous nerve perforates it in the axilla as its route of entry to the arm.

Functions

-Flexes the arm at the shoulder joint.
-Adducts the arm at the shoulder joint e.g. newspaper under arm..

Supply

Nerve Supply:
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6, C 7).

Blood Supply:
Brachial artery.

Clinical

Coracobrachialis is tested clinically by passive and then active (against resistance) flexion of the arm, i.e. ask the patient to bring their arm forward and continue to push forward as the clinician attempts to push it backward.
